"Small God"
Sumi-e on cicada paper
13" x 53"

I am sorry about the poor quality image. These damn things are so hard to take a picture of before they are mounted- they wrinkle like crazy.

I painted this in 3 days, spaztically snapped a picture of it and threw it in the mail. I am entering it in the same competition that this one was in: [link]

Hopefully she gets in.

Make sure to check out these details. So much gets lost in this image:

Your lines! They're so smooth. Gah. *jealous* I really like those branches for some reason. I think they're my favourite part. And the details. Damn. The snake is gorgeous. I love how you did the scales. And the flowers are pretty. Thanks for providing the detail images; you really miss them in the big picture here.

This is so pretty. I love the composition. I hope this doesn't offend the earth. =p *nomz*

It best not offend the earth! XD

I think I am going to include detail shots in most of my work now- there are some really small things I do that just get lost in my work. Detail details details. <3

Wow. That's gorgeous.

I have no idea if that white snake means anything, but it's really pretty, so maybe I should just make up my own interpretation.

Then again, it would probaably end up being something about fire and being angry at the world and... I probably shouldn't.

Reality is overrated.
...most of the time.

I have no idea what it means either- hopefully it is not poisonous.
:icontopios:
I don't think it is... looks more like a strangeling lady to me. But only if angered.

Awesome weight and tension. There's a kind of submission to disaster that's unique to Japanese art that probably stems from the ecology and the weather there. But what's striking is how intrinsic it is to their style of expression. Using sumi-e, you're drawn into that paradigm in one way or another. You're thought is paradoxically situated in the present, but reflecting the past and the future as if off two sides of an up-turned blade.

As for the quality of the image, I appreciated the crinkles. They add to the presence.

Therefore, there are patterns. Everywhere in nature.

I didn't even realize the scales until looking at the close-ups! Looking back at the full picture you can barely see them on the upper part of the body tangled in the cherry blossom branches.

The blue wave-like pattern in the background behind the hands is very well done also. The black lines you did there I can only do on paper with a marker and sit there for a period of time, lol.

I'm sure this will do great in the competition!

awesome work. love the snake
